Merck Asia Pacific Intranet

I planed and lead the development of a Web-based reporting application used by Merck executives to report Information Services initiatives and news to the Asia Pacific region and receive direct feedback.

The application features record versioning and a multi-tiered administration model allowing ‘editors’ to make changes and ‘publishers’ to approve changes. A thorough requirements gathering phase preceded development.

I developed a production plan in conjunction with regional executives that encouraged rapid application development while easily accepting ongoing changes. This was accomplished by using a real-time development model where developers would continually update a live test server that notified designated testers who could then provide direct feedback from specific screens. The feedback was screened by managing executives before being passed to the development team.

My development contribution was focused on the user interface. I adapted the application’s functionality directly to the requirements of the executive team, making it easy to enter data and build reports in a variety of formats.

The application was built with JSP and Java with some JavaScript and Flash for UI elements and the data is stored in an Oracle database.

Deloitte Trade Show Kiosk

I led the planning and management and co-developed the mySAP international trade show kiosk. The kiosk runs on an IIS server and features a business card scanner.

Brochure orders are stored in an Access database, paired with contact information captured by the business card scanner, and sent to a warehouse for fulfillment. A user-tracking feature collects information that is later collated into reports for use by sales teams.

The application was built with ASP, HTML, JavaScript, and Visual Basic in Dreamweaver and InterDev. The project involved a small team of developers, a controlling committee with fifteen members and over fifty content providers. To coordinate the efforts of a large team we used eRoom (an extranet-type file management and project management application).

The timeline was authored in MS Project and the application proof-of-concept was
created using Visio Technical. The completed kiosk went on to tour the world and the software architecture is now used as a development standard for new kiosk applications.

Deloitte Intranet

Led development and implementation of the new international human resources Intranet portal.

Worked with contacts in Deloitte's Human Resources department to create a hub for information and current events.

The application had to be effective while being sensitive to the cultural differences of its' users.

It was developed in Dreamweaver using HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and some ASP. Dreamweaver's collaboration features were key in managing the updates for over 3000 HTML files. The UI and image work tools included Photoshop, Flash, Freehand, ImageReady, and Fireworks.

Visa Marketplace Kiosk

Designed and developed the VISA/GI Smart Card retail kiosk demo. The demo was intended to introduce the concept at an industry tradeshow to build interest. It was developed using HTML and JavaScript in Dreamweaver, and the images were produced in Flash and Photoshop.
